Chopin Bicentenary Concerts
The Border Bicentenary Project was set up on the Welsh border to celebrate the bicentenaries of Chopin, Liszt and Alkan and to explore the lesser known music of composers linked to them, because injustice prevails in the history of music and in an ever narrowing repertoire.
The pianists featured include Zoran Jancic from Sarajevo who, like Chopin, experienced exile after being the last to perform and teach during the siege, Martino Tirimo, who is performing the complete solo works of Chopin at London's Kings Place and other major European venues, and Mark Latimer who, like Martino Tirimo, has the entire Chopin oeuvre in his repertoire and made history with the first ever live recording of the notoriously demanding Alkan 'Concerto for Solo Piano'. The scholarly pianist Thomas Cooper will give educational lecture-recitals.
The Complete Chopin solo piano works are being performed by Martino Tirimo at Holy Trinity Church in Hereford in eight concerts, each one allocated to a different charity which receives a set amount for each ticket sold.
